This post is part of a LIVE series I’m writing on SharePoint 2016 installation and what’s new in general
See Part 1 – Install
Step 23 (Continuing from previous phase): Ok, did a couple of pre reqs in the meantime. Created myself some AD Service accounts and setup a new SQL Instance.
Step 24 Add Install account as local admin and added Install as SysAdmin on SQL Box. (Yes I know.. that’s not best practice)
Step 25 Ran SharePoint Products and configuration wizard.
Step 26 So far it looks same as SP2013. I entered Database stuff and service account details
Step 27 OK, encountered the first thing that’s different from previous versions. Screenshot below: (It’s called the Specify Server Role screen) More info on it here: MinRole

Step 28 I selected Single server farm and continued. The rest of the wizard is standard as per SP2013. I just clicked Next Next
Step 29 Farm install and config done. The installer launched the SharePoint Farm Config wizard which looks almost the same as 2013 except for that ugly black ribbon on top which looks like the Office 365 one. Screenshot below (Click for large)
Step 30 I’ve selected to use the Farm Config wizard and selected only the core things I need. This looks exactly the same as SP2013
Step 31 The more things change, the more they stay the same:

Step 32: Ok, all done there.I’m now being prompted to create a initial Site collection.
Step 33: Got presented with the below:
Step 34: Yay. We Gots SharePoint 2016! This is what it looks like:

Thanks for Sharing, So far what are the most notable features on SP16 ?
Hey Thulani. So far, it’s much the same, but I’m busy with a blog on what’s really new. The one thing that i can definitely point out as a game chaner will be powerapps: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/
It’s not released yet, but sounds very promising.
Wicus how goes down under? Great piece. So the way around the .Net 4.6 issue is to make sure your windows is running the latest updates?
Hey Simba. Apologies for the delay. Downer under is great mate 🙂 Really can’t complain.
Yeah, so you need to run through all the windows updates and subsequent reboots before the installation will run. Cheers
